Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Pennsylvania
Colleen believes that establishing a therapeutic relationship is essential for developing trust and instills hope which empowers individuals toward self-directed healing. Colleen supports a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, person-centered practice of compassion, empathy and respect to promote the dignity of the human spirit. She believes that improving mental health is a journey of awakening and that the mind-body connection is fundamental in this process. She believes that whole health begins with mental health and the foundation of mental health is connection — connection to ourselves, connection to others, and connection to the world around us.
Whether we are in a therapeutic relationship or in the course of our lives, every encounter causes neural changes. One’s immediate family, close relationships, and more broadly one’s culture pervade our central nervous system as genetic enablers—affecting our neurochemistry and physiology—for better or worse. As such, a person can only be understood in the context of their environment: the complex biopsychosocial matrix that constructs our way of being in the world and our potential for growth.
Having studied yoga, meditation and mindfulness for almost two decades, Colleen has a holistic view of mental health treatment and incorporates mindfulness, nutrition and exercise coaching in addition to psychopharmacology as needed.
Colleen has experience treating a wide variety of mental health conditions including depression and other mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD and ADD. Colleen has a particular interest in PTSD. She is certified to treat across the lifespan and accepts patients 15 years and older.
